Solar-Powered Borehole Project – Epe Community, Ondo State, Nigeria

Australian Embassy Direct Aid Program (DAP), June 2026

For many years, families in Epe Community, Ondo State, relied on streams and shallow wells for their daily water needs. These sources were often unsafe, exposing residents especially children and vulnerable families to preventable waterborne diseases and ongoing health risks.

Through the Australian Embassy Direct Aid Program (DAP), in partnership with Rolan Foundation, a solar-powered borehole project was implemented to provide long-term access to safe and sustainable clean water.

The installation of a solar-powered system ensures that the borehole operates independently of the unstable public power supply, making clean water consistently available throughout the day. This solution not only improves access but also supports environmental sustainability through the use of renewable energy.

Today, residents of Epe Community can access clean, safe drinking water closer to their homes, significantly reducing the time and physical effort especially for women and children previously spent in search of water. More importantly, the project is helping to reduce the incidence of water-related illnesses and improving overall community well-being.

This intervention reflects a shared commitment to strengthening essential services in underserved communities and building a healthier, more resilient future for all.
